WHY IS THERE A NEED FOR TENANT PROTECTION PLANS?
We value your business and strive to provide a safe and secure extra space for you to store your belongings. However in the event of any unexpected event or natural disaster, it’s always best to safe guard your stored belonging with adequate protection. Because our customers’ stored property is not covered by the self storage facility insurance policy, it is each customer’s responsibility to insure his or her stored property. We at River City Mini Storage highly recommend you consider acquiring a tenant protection plan offered by one of the leading companies providing coverage for self storage customers in the country … ON THE MOVE SecureLease. The other alternative is to maintain coverage through your chosen insurance provider as an extension of your home owner’s or renter’s insurance policy.
The following FAQ provides some valuable information about what an ON THE MOVE SecureLease tenant protection plan offers.
DO HOMEOWNERS POLICIES COVER STORED GOODS?
Homeowner policies may not provide adequate coverage protection for items stored away from home, such as property kept in a storage unit along with high deductibles. The program can work as deductible coverage. Consult your insurance agent or company for coverage clarification. Our tenant protection plan provides specialized, short-term protection for stored items with Zero deductible. This program satisfies our lease requirement that you have insurance for your stored goods.
WHAT TYPES OF LOSSES WILL ON THE MOVE’S TENANT PROTECTION PROGRAM PROVIDE COVERAGE FOR?
On The Move’s Tenant Protection Program provides coverage for losses to property kept in a self storage unit either stationary or a portable unit due to burglary, lightning, windstorm, hail, fire, smoke, earthquake, building collapse, explosion, vandalism, riot and water damage (some exclusions apply).
Note: Burglary is defined as a forcible entry into a storage unit that is accompanied by proven visible signs. Theft does not require forcible entry and is not covered by tenant protection plans.
DOES THE ON THE MOVE TENANT PROTECTION PROGRAM COVER LOSSES RESULTING FROM FLOODS?
No. On The Move’s Tenant Protection Program does not provide coverage for loss or damage caused by, resulting from, contributed to or aggravated by flood, surface water, waves, tidal water or tidal wave, overflow of streams or other bodies of water, or spray from any of the foregoing, all whether driven by wind or not. Flood insurance is available through the U.S. Government and the National Flood Insurance Program.
WHAT TYPES OF PROPERTY ARE ELIGIBLE FOR COVERAGE?
Almost any personal and business property a customer stores is eligible for the program. The following goods are not covered under this protection plan and are automatically excluded: money, coins, bullion, deeds, bonds, stocks, securities, livestock, explosives and flammables. Jewelry, watches, precious stones, stamps of all kinds exceeding $500 combined total. Furs, garments trimmed with fur, fine arts, perfumery, mobile phones, tobacco, cigars, cigarettes, beers, wines, spirits exceeding $15,000 combined total. Please refer to the “Limitation and Exclusions to Liability” form for further detail.
DOES THIS COVERAGE INCLUDE MOISTURE DAMAGE, RODENT OR PEST DAMAGE?
Moisture damage is covered if caused by a leak in the roof or an accidental discharge of a sprinkler system. The program regardless of the limit on the stated value of goods will cover the tenant for up to $500 in rodent and pest infestation damage.
CAN I PURCHASE COVERAGE FOR MORE THAN ONE UNIT?
Absolutely, a Statement of Value of Goods stored simply must be filled out for each unit.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO THE CUSTOMER SET UP AND HOW SOON DOES IT GO INTO EFFECT?
